Pass the Salt Please...

When was the last time you experienced disappointment because what you thought and what was were two different things? Ever fixed a bowl of your favorite cereal and milk and realize with the first bite the milk is headed south! Yuk! Just ruins the whole breakfast idea. And what about smelling popcorn popping, you take a bite and realize it has been popped in a hot air popper with no salt and butter added. Totally boring!

I suspect that is what Jesus was trying to communicate to us in the passage from

Luke 14:34-35 which reads:

“Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Barclay tells us in his commentary on Luke 14:34-35, Jesus is using salt as a symbol of the Christian life. He points out three essential qualities of salt used in Palestine.

1. Salt was used as a preservative
Salt preserves and keeps fresh. Do you live your life daily in such away that it helps others to desire to preserve the things of God over the things of the world?

2. Salt was used as a flavoring
Salt is used in most foods as a flavoring. Do you bring flavor into the life of those around you through your words and deeds? Do others see a joy in you that seasons your life in the middle of conflicts and storms? Do others desire what you have?

3. Salt was used on the land
Salt was used on the land to make all good things grow. Do you live a life around others in such a fashion that it challenges others to grow in the things of the kingdom?

The enemy wants you to lose your ‘saltiness’. Salt Without Taste Is Worthless! Be on guard for the kingdom's sake!

His,
vickie

Just yesterday, I accidentally put my dog's raw food mix in my infant's cereal bowl. (Hey, they look almost identical!) I wonder what kind of "growth" that would be creating in my little one!
